This month (2021 Nov) Microsoft announced a new on-premise SharePoint, named “SharePoint Server Subscription Edition” is commercially released. I cannot find the licensing terms for it at the moment. However I guess an annual “subscription” fee is required depends on number of users. Also there will not be SharePoint Server 2022 release.

I have installed it on my test server. It required at least Windows Server 2019. It support direct upgrade from SP2016 and SP2019. The installation procedure is same as previous version. The layout is almost the same as SP2019.

So how about Workflow Manager? It is exactly the same as all previous version. The official guide is here.

As you can see, the same guide is applicable to SP2013, SP2016, SP2019 and Subscription Edition. The workflow manager version and cumulative update version are the same as year 2018.

In order to test it, I follow the my own guide and successfully installed Workflow Manager on SP Subscription. So it is just the old SharePoint 2013 Workflow Manager. Nothing change. Nothing new. You still need SharePoint Designer 2013 to create or manage the workflows.

The only change I can find is the name and icon for shortcuts. It no longer have a year number as suffix.

and the logo at left top corner have been changed in CA:

That’s it and thanks.
